EN 14470-1 is an EU fire safety standard for cabinets used to store flammable liquids. It sets requirements for the structure, external fire resistance, and fire performance of fire safety cabinets, defining fire protection levels and fire testing requirements. This standard was updated and published in July 2023.
After rigorous retesting and certification by TÜV, Shanghai SYSBEL Industrial Technology Co., Ltd. received the TÜV Rheinland certification report for the latest EU EN 14470-1 standard on July 22 (certificate number: R50636831 0001). This is the first TÜV Rheinland Type Certificate for fire safety cabinets meeting the EN 14470-1:2023 standard issued in Greater China. TÜV Rheinland is Germany's largest product safety and quality certification body, with 145 years of reputation in Germany and Europe. As a leading global provider of testing technology and certification services, TÜV Rheinland has a worldwide network and a high international reputation.
Products certified by TÜV are trusted for their safety and quality, reducing asset risk and meeting local standard requirements.

SYSBEL's fire cabinets withstood a 90-minute burn test at 1006°C, with temperatures at 15 measurement points inside the cabinet remaining well below standard requirements, passing the stringent EN 1361 fire resistance test in one go—a remarkable achievement in the industry. This demonstrates SYSBEL’s deep technical expertise and R&D innovation in this field, and it is hoped SYSBEL will continue to lead with new technologies, providing better safety solutions for global customers.
What are the new features in EN14470-1:2023 compared to the 2004 version?
EN14470-1:2023Updates to the Fire Safety Storage Cabinet Standard:
-
Updated fire test standard: EN 1363-1:1999 is replaced by EN 1363-1:2020 to ensure up-to-date and accurate testing methods and results.
-
Expanded scope: The internal volume limit increased from 1m³ to 2m³ to accommodate larger safety cabinets.
-
Adjusted cabinet classification: Type 15 has been removed, with Type 30/60/90 retained for a simplified and clearer classification. Additionally, requirements for “automatic closing doors” and “ventilation connections” have been removed.
-
Expanded initial temperature range for fire tests: The initial temperature for calculating temperature rise in the cabinet is changed from (20±5)°C to “(25±15)°C” according to EN 1363-1:2020, section 5.6.
-
New mechanical tests:
i. Storage shelf loading must meet Level 1 requirements of EN 16121 and EN 16122;
ii. Storage shelf mobility durability must meet Level 1 requirements of EN 16121 and EN 16122;
iii. Door and handle durability must meet Level 1 requirements of EN 16121 and EN 16122;
iv. Verification of spill containment;
v. Closing mechanism testing (see standard appendix C);
vi. Classification based on: Time for cabinet temperature rise not exceeding 180 K.
-
Updates to structural descriptions, test instruments, labels, and markings.
