What Are the Important Precautions for Choosing a Chemicals Storage Cabinet?

Chemical Characteristics
►It is very important to identify and catalog all chemicals to be stored. A careful review of the "Material Safety Data Sheet" (MSDS) can determine the relevant characteristics and recommended storage practices. In order to avoid toxic explosions and fire protection, it is critical to isolate incompatible chemicals. Relevant regulations and the "Right to Know Act" (or "Hazardous Substances Communication Standard") provide for chemical labeling and training. In order to facilitate access to the MSDS form at the point of use, a "document storage box" is also provided, which is directly attached to the chemical storage cabinets.
►One factor in choosing a safety cabinet is the relationship between the chemicals and the construction materials of the safety cabinet itself. For example, for non-flammable acidic substances and corrosive liquids, the construction material should be polyethylene or wood laminate. However, for flammable but weakly corrosive liquids, it is recommended to use chemically resistant steel cabinets with polyethylene lining frames. Steel safety cabinets are suitable for flammable liquids, and choosing the correct color will help manage and isolate various types of liquids. Although the specification does not mandate specific colors, the industry has specific colors that should be followed by convention for designated liquids.



Regulations and Safety
►Precautions: As mentioned before, the construction standards must comply with the regulations in NFPA and OSHA. In some areas that need to comply with "International Fire Code" (IFC) or NFPA1 "Unified Fire Code", it is further required that the doors of flammable liquid safety cabinets should be properly installed and closed automatically.
►The safety cabinet has single door and double door, two closing types: manual or automatic closing. The economical manual closing door can be fully opened to 180 degrees, and the user is required to close the cabinet door personally. The self-closing, self-positioning door adopts a mechanism that can automatically close the door when the control device is released. During use, the fusible wire pulls the cabinet door, but if the cabinet door keeps opening accidentally, it will melt at 165°F (74°C) in the event of a fire and automatically close the cabinet door. Although some states in the United States that have adopted specific fire codes require the use of automatic closing doors, it is recommended to always contact the local authorities for specific requirements. The automatic door closing eliminates the potential "thinking factor" of forgetting to close the door, ensuring that the door is closed. Therefore, for a good overall safety plan, automatic door closing is often the first choice. There is another advantage: the automatic closing mechanism is hidden in the top wall of the cabinet, maximizing the available storage space.
Regardless of whether the door is closed manually or automatically, the self-locking cabinet door and handle are very critical, because the user does not need to manually rotate the handle to ensure that the forced three-point door lock is properly engaged. The stainless steel bullet self-locking system provides a reliable closing capacity and the best service life, while the heat resistance is improved.
►All safety cabinets have a three-point linkage self-locking system, which complies with OSHA and NFPA standards, and most of them are FM certified.
