What is EN14470-1
EN14470-1:2004 was prepared by CEN/TC332 Technical Committee "Laboratory Equipment" and approved by CEN. The standard puts forward requirements for the structure, resistance to external fire, and fire performance of fire safety cabinets used in laboratories to store flammable liquids, and clarifies the fire rating and fire test requirements.
02. Core performance requirements of EN14470-1
1. Classification of fire safety cabinets
According to the time that the temperature rise does not exceed 180K in the fire test, the cabinets are divided into 15-minute cabinets, 30-minute cabinets, 60-minute cabinets, and 90-minute cabinets. Must pass a real fire test to meet the standard.
2. Fireproof structure
In the event of a fire, the fire cabinet shall ensure that the contents of the cabinet do not pose any additional fire risk for at least 15 minutes before the fire spreads. There are also detailed requirements for the cabinet door, that is, the cabinet door should be able to fully automatically close from any position within 20 seconds from the time the cabinet door is released.
3. Fire resistance test
The fireproof cabinet must be actually placed in a suitable furnace for combustion testing, and the heating curve must be controlled within the range specified in EN1361-1.
03. Real fire test certification
According to Internet and industry-related statistics, in mainland China, only one German organization, TUV, is authorized to have the ability to test and verify whether it meets the 90, 60, and 30-minute fire resistance level tests. It is required that certified fire safety cabinets must have detailed test reports. The SE890450 (90 minutes) and SE830450 (30 minutes) fireproof cabinets produced by Sisbell have passed the real fire test of TUV and fully meet the EN14470-1 standard and fire resistance requirements. You can check the authenticity of the TUV official website www.tuv.com.
04. Summary of EN14470-1 Fire Cabinet Standard
Safety is no small matter, life is a big deal. When choosing a fire cabinet, pay more attention, spend more time, and choose certifications and products that can stand up to scrutiny. Summarized as follows:
1. Whether the fire safety cabinet can truly meet the standard of EN14470-1, and whether it can truly be called 90, 60, and 30 fire resistance, it must pass a real fire test, and a fire test report must be provided.
2. Only some institutions and companies claim to meet the EN14470-1 standard, and their credibility remains to be confirmed.

According to the Internet and industry information feedback, China can provide real fire tests under the EN14470-1 standard, and only German TUV has issued standard qualifications. Therefore, the certificates issued by other institutions not authorized by the Standards Committee on the market are similar to a self-declaration. Whether it can withstand fire for 90 minutes needs to be verified by a real fire test.
